      About this project

Starbucks is an American global coffee company and coffeehouse chain based in Seattle, Washington. It is currently the largest coffeehouse company in the world.

In its endeavour for their stores to become more energy efficient, Starbucks is increasingly moving towards the implementation of LED lighting in its outlets to become 'greener' in their business operations.

Spurlite became involved with Starbucks through a long process of providing samples and proving product suitability, efficiency and durability through design and demonstration. We work with both Starbucks directly and a number of their franchisees which has resulted in a portfolio of products that are now approved for almost all applications within the stores.

The ongoing Starbucks projects we work on include a combination of new stores and refurbishments for which we have had to get official supplier approval status from Starbucks. We had to provide assurance and confidence that Spurlite could design to the strict lighting criteria as governed by Starbucks head office in Seattle, and still maintain the same look and feel that they require.

We work closely with their designers on each individual store, to ensure the required aesthetics and lighting levels are achieved both internally and externally.

Each Starbucks can be very different, for example, some have ceilings while others do not. This means we have to be very flexible with our lighting solution and propose one that best suits the style and layout the interior designers are looking to achieve for that specific store. To accomplish this we use a combination of products such as our DOT9100 downlight series with a gold reflector, the Cadan family range in track and pendant which produces up to 1400 lumens and the new Crystal Halo Sunset Dim. The Sunset Dim LED module mimics the colour temperature dimming curve of a traditional halogen from 2900K to 1800K.
