Marwell Zoo is in the heart of the beautiful Hampshire countryside, 8 miles from Winchester and is a charity dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity providing a home to a range of exotic and endangered species.

Spurlite was invited to tender, along with TDS Electrical, to produce a design and lighting solution that would revamp the entire visitor centre at Marwell Zoo.

Working closely with the shop fitter Total Design to gauge the new layouts, we created a new LED lighting proposal which placed emphasis on enhancing the point of sale area and of course energy savings from replacing the existing installation.

We came up with a full design which made the best of the unique features of the space and blended lighting for point of sale, feature and also an art gallery. This was achieved through extensive design work and creating full 3D renders to bring the design to life for the client.

We utilised a combination of fittings to achieve this which included the Track mounted and the Trio Surface mount LED luminaries from our Zipar range. These unique fittings are fully adjustable and have an efficacy of up to 89lm/W.

Our ever popular DOT Downlights were used in the entrance area to great effect. The DOT9778P 4000K downlight delivers an impressive 101lm/W and was used with a flush glass accessory, just one of the many accessories available for the fitting.

Spurlite secured the project with TDS Electrical and together worked closely with the client to deliver to their required timescale.

Once the fittings were installed on site, we also spent considerable time locating and individually angling the spots to ensure the desired results were achieved.

The client was extremely pleased with the final result and were delighted to see sales in the first two months of trading increase dramatically as a result of the refurbishment.
