      About this project

A design and build project developed by Spurlite in conjunction with EMTEC, Birmingham cemented a new relationship between both companies. An old contact had joined EMTEC and contacted Spurlite with a view to helping them with a design build project. Spurlite joined the team and helped develop the lighting proposal for this waste recycling project.

A fully compliant design was produced covering all aspects of the project both internally and externally. The electrical contractor successfully won their bid and then commissioned Cundall Consulting engineers to finalise the design, Spurlite worked directly with Cundall to confirm full technical compliance of the lighting design. Additional support was provided by Spurlite in attending client design meetings to present the lighting design and explain to the client the technical requirements for illuminating both internal and external spaces where mixed traffic and pedestrian movement.

Longford LED Highbays formed the larger part of the lighting within the waste handling building with LED emergency twin spots providing the emergency back-up. Exterior lighting consisted of Megin lanterns to circulation routes and carparks, with a high output Kitty Hawk LED building mounted floodlight to the service yard areas. The Osprey bulkhead illuminates the exit and entrance roadway where a low level lighting solution was required to sit within the fence line of this area.

All luminaires provided had either zero or very limited light above the horizontal and close controlled optics to ensure full dark skies compliance and prevent any spill light onto adjacent properties.
